A university with over 14,000 users on its network experienced a dramatic peak in bandwidth consumption over a 24-hour period.

LANGuardian solution

The network manager used LANGuardian to generate a report of incoming and outgoing network traffic over the 24-hour period. The report immediately showed the client machines that had transmitted the most data; drilling down on the busiest client showed that it downloaded a long list of .torrent files. Thanks to integration with Active Directory, the network manager was able to identify the specific user who had downloaded the files.
