Netflix is a US based provider of on-demand video streaming services. The company was founded in 1997 and initially offered services to subscribers in the US, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. Netflix services were launched in the UK and Ireland on Jan 09th 2012.The most common ways to access the services is through a web browser on a PC or Mac OS X device. A number of hardware devices are also Netflix-ready.
As Netflix use a number of third parties to distribute their content it is difficult to search for activity using IP addresses alone. Using a combination of web and traffic analysis engines the LANGuardian can be used to detect what systems are accessing the service together with the drilldown to see what bandwidth has being consumed.
In this 2 minute video Darragh Delaney looks at how you can detect Netflix activity on your network and how you can drill down to reveal what bandwidth was consumed. During the video we will see how 30mins of video streaming amounted to almost 500MB of data.
